Our Impact

MAJOR SOCIAL IMPACT, WITH A MINIMAL ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

We are deeply committed to fostering the vibrant Central Indian community in which our farms and distilleries are located. With robust enrichment and education programs, and stringent, self-imposed environmental guidelines, we aim to leave a lasting social impact – and a minimal ecological one.

PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY IS ONE OF OUR CORE VALUES

We believe the most effective way to empower women is by enabling them to achieve financial independence. This is why over half of our employees are women, all of whom are paid fair wages on par with their male counterparts. Uma is committed to equal pay, in a country where
gender-based pay gaps are often dramatic, especially in the agriculture industry. We also offer our staff ongoing education programs, childcare, and generous pension plans, to ensure they have the monetary resources and practical understanding to plan for their financial futures. This theme permeates every part of our organization – even our reusable packaging is hand sewn and embroidered by female artisans in rural India.

WE REINVEST A THIRD OF OUR ANNUAL PROFITS BACK INTO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

On average, we reinvest a third of our annual profits back into our local community. We operate the sole health clinic in our village free of charge, and provide the specialized resources to treat Thalasemmia, a genetic blood disorder prevalent in the area. We also offer academic scholarships to encourage promising local youth to pursue higher education. Over the years, we’ve learned that investing in our community is not only the right thing to do – it’s also the best way to guarantee superior product quality.

AVOIDING SYNTHETIC PESTICIDES & ADDITIVES, WE ACTIVELY CONVERT OUR WASTE INTO VALUE

Finally, loving and caring for the environment in the Ayurvedic tradition is a consideration
in everything we do. This is why our farming and distillation processes are designed for sustainability, and have been since our inception. We completely avoid synthetic pesticides and additives, and convert most of our waste into consumer products, like incense, or alternative fuel to power our distilleries.
